Chelsea Vs Manchester City - FA Community Shield 2018, Wembley Stadium

07 August 18

Posted at 8:10

Having supported Chelsea as long as I can remember this was my first Community Shield and I get to be close to the pitch and photograph it for Frozen In Motion. A typical pre-season friendly and can't take too much from it but definitely the two major poistives from the game was Manchester City's Phil Foden and Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi who both starred in England's Fifa U-17 World Cup Final Win. Neither looked fazed or out of place and I hope both play a part throughout the season and progress. Top players.

Standon Calling 2018 - Day 2

30 July 18

Posted at 11:00

Each year Standon Calling gets bigger and better. This was my fourth time shooting the festival but sadly due to other commitments I could only photograph day two with George Ezra headlining the main stage. Definitely the festival as the go to festival to see the next big artist or band. I finally got to see and photograph Shame who for me is the band of the moment. By far the best live performance I have seen in ages but hidden gems were Nelson Can and Ten Tonnes aka Ethan Barnett. Superb live sets from both. Strong performances from Genghar and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club before the headline act George Ezra took to the stage. I remember shooting a portrait of George Ezra at the Old Blue Last for Burberry on an iPhone 5. Back then you knew with the songs he performed that night he was always destined to headline a festival slot. Another quality line-up from Alex and his team at Standon and looking forward to see what 2019 brings.

Justice For Chinatown

25 July 18

Posted at 6:26

London’s Chinatown went on strike for five hours in response to what they call heavy-handed ‘fishing raids’ by immigration officers. The protest had been organised by the London Chinatown Chinese Association (LCCA).

Protestors was shouting “justice for Chinatown” and “enough is enough” as hundreds of restaurant owners, waiters and chefs along with supporters marched through Chinatown, past the Houses of Parliament to the Home Office before heading back to Chinatown.

The demonstration was prompted by an incident earlier this month, when an immigration raid on a Chinatown restaurant caused disturbance in the middle of the day.

FireFlies Tour 2018 - End of Tour

20 July 18

My collection of iPhone images from FireFlies Tour 2018

I don't think I will ever be able to express or tell you the full story about being part of the FireFlies Tour family. It's definitely one you have to experience yourself.

FireFlie Riders are all here for the same reason. To raise awareness and vital funds to help beat blood cancer with Bloodwise. As with most people, cancer has affected friends & family and although not cancer related my mum passed away March 23 from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) so this tour was definitely in her memory.

We arrive very early in Geneva, travel to basecamp ready for the following eight days of cycling. 1000km, 23 mountain climbs until we arrive in Cannes. Hopefully the photo's will help you see what a wonderful experience this was and I couldn't have wished for a better group of riders to complete this emotional journey with.

As the Tour De France is in full flow eight of the mountain climbs in this years race have been completed by FireFlies riders in 2018, the most famous of them all is Alpe D'Huez which is Stage 12 of the Tour de France. As I watch the pro riders power there way up this mamouth climb it brings back emotional memories and a sense of achievement knowing that I was there in June but obviosuly a lot slower and probably look like I was in a lot more pain. It's 13.8 km (8.6 mi), with an average gradient of 8.1%, with 21 hairpin bends and a maximum gradient of 13%. All I could think of was the burger and chips waiting for me at the top. My official climb time was 2hr00min36sec. This was just one of the moutains we completed but for me the most memorable especially having just watched this on TV.

This was by far the hardest challenge of my life and one I will not forget.

Róisín Murphy Live at Somerset House 15 July 2018

17 July 18

Posted at 4:14

Róisín Murphy was known has one half of 90's dance duo Moloko before she embarked on her solo career. Four studio albums as a solo artist tonight's show kicked off with lively beats that got the flamboyant crowd going. Perfect vocals on each track photographers were allowed to shoot. The only negative, we only had three songs and then out and on the basis of what I heard Somerset House was in for a treat. I Wish I could have stayed, it was destined to be a top show. Next time the camera stays at home and I will see the whole set.

BST Hyde Park 2018

15 July 18

Posted at 8:20

I can't believe it's been a year already and I'm back at one of my favorite festivals in London. Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time in Hyde Park. Unfortunately I've not been able to cover the other shows but glad I got to photograph Michael Bublé live. I had no expectations on what his show would be like and when the heavens opened up which was probably the worst downpour I've stood in with no jacket or cover I thought this could be a waste of time. It was the complete opporsite. Bublé came to the end of the runway and made sure all the photographers got there shots while the rain continued to pour down. A fantastic show. Other acts on the day included the ever impressive Megan McKenna proving that she's not just a reality TV star but a very good singer and have no doubt she will continue to grow her fan base and play bigger venues. The Feeling, the original line-up for Bananarama and Van Morrison.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Greenwich Music Time

08 July 18

Posted at 8:33

I've waited a long time to photograph Noel Gallager live. Unfortunately I started music photography late in life and missed Oasis in their prime so when the opportunity came a long to photograph Noel Gallagher not too far from where I live it was a very easy yes.

A very different crowd and setting compared to Liam's show at Finsbury Park last week which was carnage in so many ways. Noel's show was in the beautiful grounds of the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich South East London. Stunning back drop and no pints being thrown here there and everywhere. A great show that ended with the Beatles classic All you Need Is Love. One of my favourite venues and shows.

Liam Gallagher - Finsbury Park June 2018

01 July 18

Posted at 11:55

In the space of a year I have seen and photographed Liam Gallagher live at Electric Brixton, Ally Pally and now centre stage at North London’s Finsbury Park in front of 20,000 fans. Things might have not gone to well for Beady Eye but we can certainly say Liam Gallagher is back doing what he does best. A sold out Finsbury Park were also treated to the impressive Wolf Alice and a surprise set from Richard Ashcroft who Liam has described "A proper front man not many of us left"

Liam's solo material definitely lives up to Oasis songs and definitely not out of place in the set list which started of Rock n Star and ended with Wonderwall.

Roll on album number two and more big live shows.

FireFlies Tour 2018

06 June 18

Posted at 2:27

Just one week until le grand depart for this year’s FireFlies Tour and after many years of being in complete awe and admiration of everyone who has taken part in the FireFlies, I’ve decided to take up what will be the biggest challenge of my life.

Eight days of cycling over 1000km and 28,512m climbing across Les Grandes Alpes, nothing of which compares to living with cancer.

As with most people, cancer has affected friends & family and although not cancer related my mum passed away nine weeks ago from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) so this tour will be in her memory.

When the opportunity came to ride with the FireFlies family, my mum encouraged me to help those who are less fortunate. Every penny you donate goes direct to Bloodwise.

Alternatively you can text FFCC85 to 70070 with your £ donation. Max £10

Thank you in advance.

Little Black Book - Immortal Awards Launch Night

It was a pleasure to be invited to photograph The Immortal Awards Launch Night at The Mill by an old friend Matt Cooper.

The Immortal Awards is a free-to-enter awards show for all of Little Black Book’s global members. Launched in 2017 and Inspired by Sir John Hegarty’s belief that creative companies rarely create more than five genuinely award-worthy pieces per office a year, The Immortal Awards only allows entrants a maximum of five entries.

Beth Ditto live at the Electric Brixton

This was my second gig of the night and only knowing Beth Ditto from her days with the Gossip I wasn't too sure what to expect. After this performance I definitely left being a converted fan. An amazing voice, very talented and very funny. So pleased I had the opportunity to photograph this show even though the lighting wasn't great.

Millwall Vs Aston Villa 6 May 2018

Potentially my last game of the season. It's been a learning curve in to the world of football photography and one I've enjoyed.

Congratulations to both Millwall who won today's match one nil but just missed out on a playoff place and Aston Villa who reached the playoff's and face Middlesborough.

Shaun Williams with the only goal from the penalty spot.

Chas and Dave Live at The Borderline

17 April 18

Posted at 3:17

Chas & Dave played an intimate warm up gig at London's Borderline on Sunday 15th April ahead of their show at Royal Albert Hall. Definitely not a guilty pleasure and definitely not a novelty band Chas and Dave are serious musicians who have been around over forty years. Tonight's set list is as long as my arm and they even added a few new tunes for good measure from their new album "A Little Bit Of Us" out this Friday, their first in over thirty years.

Tonight's show just happened to be five days before my mums funeral and her chosen exit music is a Chas and Dave number. It will definitely be my top three gigs of the year come December for many reasons. Top night and lets hope they continue to play many more live shows.

Darren Barden - Let's Skip To The Good Bits Book Launch

13 April 18

Posted at 8:11

It's not often you get invited to a book launch especially one that is close to my heart. 21 years ago my cousin Darren was a victim of a knife attack on his own doorstep. Little by little Darren pulled his life back together and with the help of his amazing wife Wendy and his parents, Darren was able to write a book and telling how it feels to have his world shattered by knife crime and how he took back control of his life, following his own battle with mental health.

It was a priviledge being at Darren's book launch where he told his story and how it affected not only him but his family and friends close to him and those who helped him through dark times.

Chelsea Ladies Vs Montpellier - UEFA Women's Champions League Quarter -Final Second Leg 28 March 2018

29 March 18

Posted at 10:12

Football is the biggest women's team sport in England with an estimate of almost three million active female players. Last night was a first for me seeing Chelsea Ladies. A very well organised team and it's no surprise they are sitting top of the FA Woman's Super League and have created history by beating French side Montpellier 3-1 in their quarter-final second leg clash at Kingsmeadow to win the tie 5-1 on aggregate and reach their first ever Champion League Semi-Final. Goals from Fran Kirby and Romana Bachmann. A record attendance of 3,050 people, Chelsea Ladies go into their first Champions League semi-finals where they will play Wolfsburg while Manchester City host Lyon.

Colour-Tech

11 March 18

Posted at 12:08

I never knew how much fun I could have in the space of an hour looking around the magical workshop of Colour-Tech. With over twenty years experience David Crowe has been running Colour-Tech.co.uk and has specialised in the repair and refinishing of loved bike frames and forks. What I love about Colour-Tech is that David also has his own Racing Team and they regularly race throughout the UK & Europe.

The time had come to upgrade my bike and move away from the entry level road bike but with a tight budget it’s hard to do this especially trying to find a small frame. Someone mentioned that if I was happy with the frame and the size why not change the components. This made perfect sense so I thought I would get my original Cannondale Caad 8 re-sprayed, add a brand new group set and wheels. I now have a four week wait for the final result.

A lovely experience speaking to David about bikes and his workshop. If you are interested in restoration, respray, rebuilding your bike contact David at Colour-Tech www.colour-tech.co.uk/about/
