There are so many festivals that take place in the UK alone. Last year more than a thousand festivals took place and in 2015 it was calculated accoriding to the FT that 3.5m people attended a festival with the market estimated to be worth £2bn to the economy. This is astonishing figures but yet so many festivals disappear after one year. Standon Calling in Hertfordhsire and Lee Fest in Kent are two festivals I love. I've seen both grow at a steady and sensible rate with the line-up getting better and stronger each year and one that competes with some of the so called bigger festivals.
This year I was very fortunate to have documented a few festivals and after ten years I finally got to shoot Glastonbury. Unfortunately this did not include the Pyramid and the Other Stage but still an experience and got to see and shoot so many amazing bands and artists on all the remaining stages. Even got a cheeky portrait of Brad Pitt on his own while watching Future Islands at the legendary John Peel Stage.
My festival trips covered Glastonbury, Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Festivals in Hyde Park, Citadel, Standon Calling and V Festival Hylands Park. Some legendary acts including Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, Stevie Nicks, Tears For Fears, Grace Jones and Gary Numan have performed this summer along side many other bands and artists that include Kings of Leon, Maggie Rogers, Foals, Slaves, Editiors, Laura Marling, Phoenix, Nadia Rose, Pink and Craig David to name a few and JAIN who will be the one who stands out for me after shooting her at the Troubadour in LA at the beginning of the year and seeing this artist grow and perform to thousands in a very short time.
Looking forward to another active festival season in 2018.
