FIREFLIES TOUR 2017 - 'For Those Who Suffer We Ride’

It's been an exciting year for me in photography and I've been very fortunate to have photographed many bands and artists performing live in and around London. I got to shoot many festivals including Glastonbury and document the streets of LA but it was spending time with a group of cyclists who participated in this years FireFlies TOUR that will be my photography highlight of 2017.

From day one I knew I was surrounded by very special people.

Inspired by the Courage it takes to fight Cancer, the riders tackle the most gruelling climbs of Le TOUR de FRANCE. The last time I visited The New Den was to see Chelsea come away with a score draw in the FA Cup. I returned to The New Den but this time to photograph their match against Hull in the EFL for the News Shopper.

Blondie - O2 Academy Brixton

It's been a while since I last posted so I thought I would play catch-up and start off with photos from Blondie's return visit to London. After seeing Blondie at the Roundhouse it was a must to photograph at one of may favourite venues, London's Brixton Academy.

The lighting was perfect and Deborah Harry was sounding amazing. The only negative photographers have to leave after the third song.

Frozen In Motion Sports Photography Agency gave me the opportunity to photograph England Vs Germany, International friendly at Wembley.

An amazing experience to be surrounded by so many sport photography professionals all trying to capture the shots that tell the story of the match and printed in the next day papers.

I was pleased to find out one of my images made front page of the sport supplement of The Guardian the following day after the match with the heading 'The Flying Pickford'

World COPD Awareness Day 2017

16 November 17

Posted at 1:44

The condition, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is thought to affect around 11 million people and is the third biggest killer in America.

Raising awareness for World COPD 2017 I thought I would share a recent portrait of my mum who is a COPD sufferer and share some of her words.

Mum

This woman is an inspiration to so many for various reasons. Full of life and loves her family to bits especially her three Grandchildren. She dotes on my 3 year old son Henry no matter how much pain she is going through.

What is COPD. It stands for Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease a type of obstructive lung disease characterised by long-term breathing problems and poor airflow. The main symptoms include shortness of breath and cough with sputum production. COPD is a progressive disease, meaning it typically worsens over time. I have taken a few portraits of my mum during this time but felt this portrait details how her daily life looks like.

For most of the day oxygen passes through tubes to help her breathe. I asked my mum to tell me about her life since being diagnosed with COPD to go with this portrait and this is what she said.

Years ago a doctor saw her and said COPD would happen if she doesn't stop smoking but she thought it was jargon to get her to stop and even though she wanted to she couldn't do it and because she thought she couldn't she didn't. Many years on the doctor eventually told her she has COPD, an illness she describes not to wish on her worse enemy. The suffering is painful and not being able to breathe is very scary for her and brings a lot of anxiety. Always in and out of hospital with various breathing related illnesses. I remember being on holiday and she managed to gather the whole holiday village up one early Sunday morning to play sports. Today she is unable to do most things and has oxygen at home. She gave up smoking ten years ago and paying the price for it now. If at least one person gives up from reading this then I know my mum will be pleased.

Barnet Vs Colchester United 11 November 2017

With International friendlies and some important World Cup deciders their were no Premiership or Championship games this weekend but some very good games still available to shoot in League One and League Two. I decided to make the trip to The Hive Stadium for Barnet and Colchester United. Barnet were in need of three points and I thought the first half they played well and bossed the game. Unfortunately Colchester popped up with a late winner from Sammie Szmodics and Colchester went on to claim all three points.

Love their little stadium. Nice family feel and a great place to photograph. Will definitely be back before the end of the season.

Swindon Town made it look easy as they scored five against National League South side Dartford in the FA Cup first round win.

Timi Elsnik scored twice, Harry Smith's right-foot drive before half time and Amine Linganzi added a fourth before Paul Mullin scored a fifth goal.

Dartford scored a late goal through centre-back Richard Sho Silva.

Fulham Vs Bristol City 31 October 2017

04 November 17

Posted at 7:36

Fulham were beaten 2-0 by Bristol City at Craven Cottage on Tuesday evening with Aboubakar Kamara sent off in the second half but at this point the damage was already done and Bristol City controlling the game.

Bobby Reid opened the scoring inside half an hour with Korey Smith adding a second before the break. Comfortable winners for Bristol City moving them up to fourth in the table.

A tough night to shoot in very low light conditions and not much action where I was placed.
