Standon Calling 2018 - Day 2

30 July 18

Each year Standon Calling gets bigger and better. This was my fourth time shooting the festival but sadly due to other commitments I could only photograph day two with George Ezra headlining the main stage. Definitely the festival as the go to festival to see the next big artist or band. I finally got to see and photograph Shame who for me is the band of the moment. By far the best live performance I have seen in ages but hidden gems were Nelson Can and Ten Tonnes aka Ethan Barnett. Superb live sets from both. Strong performances from Genghar and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club before the headline act George Ezra took to the stage. I remember shooting a portrait of George Ezra at the Old Blue Last for Burberry on an iPhone 5. Back then you knew with the songs he performed that night he was always destined to headline a festival slot. Another quality line-up from Alex and his team at Standon and looking forward to see what 2019 brings.

Justice For Chinatown

25 July 18

Posted at 6:26

London’s Chinatown went on strike for five hours in response to what they call heavy-handed ‘fishing raids’ by immigration officers. The protest had been organised by the London Chinatown Chinese Association (LCCA).

Protestors was shouting “justice for Chinatown” and “enough is enough” as hundreds of restaurant owners, waiters and chefs along with supporters marched through Chinatown, past the Houses of Parliament to the Home Office before heading back to Chinatown.

The demonstration was prompted by an incident earlier this month, when an immigration raid on a Chinatown restaurant caused disturbance in the middle of the day.

FireFlies Tour 2018 - End of Tour

My collection of iPhone images from FireFlies Tour 2018

I don't think I will ever be able to express or tell you the full story about being part of the FireFlies Tour family. It's definitely one you have to experience yourself.

FireFlie Riders are all here for the same reason. To raise awareness and vital funds to help beat blood cancer with Bloodwise. As with most people, cancer has affected friends & family and although not cancer related my mum passed away March 23 from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) so this tour was definitely in her memory.

We arrive very early in Geneva, travel to basecamp ready for the following eight days of cycling. 1000km, 23 mountain climbs until we arrive in Cannes. Hopefully the photo's will help you see what a wonderful experience this was and I couldn't have wished for a better group of riders to complete this emotional journey with.

As the Tour De France is in full flow eight of the mountain climbs in this years race have been completed by FireFlies riders in 2018, the most famous of them all is Alpe D'Huez which is Stage 12 of the Tour de France. As I watch the pro riders power there way up this mamouth climb it brings back emotional memories and a sense of achievement knowing that I was there in June but obviosuly a lot slower and probably look like I was in a lot more pain. It's 13.8 km (8.6 mi), with an average gradient of 8.1%, with 21 hairpin bends and a maximum gradient of 13%. All I could think of was the burger and chips waiting for me at the top. My official climb time was 2hr00min36sec. This was just one of the moutains we completed but for me the most memorable especially having just watched this on TV.

This was by far the hardest challenge of my life and one I will not forget.

Róisín Murphy Live at Somerset House 15 July 2018

17 July 18

Posted at 4:14

Róisín Murphy was known has one half of 90's dance duo Moloko before she embarked on her solo career. Four studio albums as a solo artist tonight's show kicked off with lively beats that got the flamboyant crowd going. Perfect vocals on each track photographers were allowed to shoot. The only negative, we only had three songs and then out and on the basis of what I heard Somerset House was in for a treat. I Wish I could have stayed, it was destined to be a top show. Next time the camera stays at home and I will see the whole set.

BST Hyde Park 2018

15 July 18

I can't believe it's been a year already and I'm back at one of my favorite festivals in London. Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time in Hyde Park. Unfortunately I've not been able to cover the other shows but glad I got to photograph Michael Bublé live. I had no expectations on what his show would be like and when the heavens opened up which was probably the worst downpour I've stood in with no jacket or cover I thought this could be a waste of time. It was the complete opporsite. Bublé came to the end of the runway and made sure all the photographers got there shots while the rain continued to pour down. A fantastic show. Other acts on the day included the ever impressive Megan McKenna proving that she's not just a reality TV star but a very good singer and have no doubt she will continue to grow her fan base and play bigger venues. The Feeling, the original line-up for Bananarama and Van Morrison.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Greenwich Music Time

08 July 18

Posted at 8:33

I've waited a long time to photograph Noel Gallager live. Unfortunately I started music photography late in life and missed Oasis in their prime so when the opportunity came a long to photograph Noel Gallagher not too far from where I live it was a very easy yes.

A very different crowd and setting compared to Liam's show at Finsbury Park last week which was carnage in so many ways. Noel's show was in the beautiful grounds of the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich South East London. Stunning back drop and no pints being thrown here there and everywhere. A great show that ended with the Beatles classic All you Need Is Love. One of my favourite venues and shows.

Liam Gallagher - Finsbury Park June 2018

01 July 18

Posted at 11:55

In the space of a year I have seen and photographed Liam Gallagher live at Electric Brixton, Ally Pally and now centre stage at North London’s Finsbury Park in front of 20,000 fans. Things might have not gone to well for Beady Eye but we can certainly say Liam Gallagher is back doing what he does best. A sold out Finsbury Park were also treated to the impressive Wolf Alice and a surprise set from Richard Ashcroft who Liam has described "A proper front man not many of us left"

Liam's solo material definitely lives up to Oasis songs and definitely not out of place in the set list which started of Rock n Star and ended with Wonderwall.

Roll on album number two and more big live shows.
