My collection of iPhone images from FireFlies Tour 2018

I don't think I will ever be able to express or tell you the full story about being part of the FireFlies Tour family. It's definitely one you have to experience yourself.

FireFlie Riders are all here for the same reason. To raise awareness and vital funds to help beat blood cancer with Bloodwise. As with most people, cancer has affected friends & family and although not cancer related my mum passed away March 23 from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) so this tour was definitely in her memory.

We arrive very early in Geneva, travel to basecamp ready for the following eight days of cycling. 1000km, 23 mountain climbs until we arrive in Cannes. Hopefully the photo's will help you see what a wonderful experience this was and I couldn't have wished for a better group of riders to complete this emotional journey with.

As the Tour De France is in full flow eight of the mountain climbs in this years race have been completed by FireFlies riders in 2018, the most famous of them all is Alpe D'Huez which is Stage 12 of the Tour de France. As I watch the pro riders power there way up this mamouth climb it brings back emotional memories and a sense of achievement knowing that I was there in June but obviosuly a lot slower and probably look like I was in a lot more pain. It's 13.8 km (8.6 mi), with an average gradient of 8.1%, with 21 hairpin bends and a maximum gradient of 13%. All I could think of was the burger and chips waiting for me at the top. My official climb time was 2hr00min36sec. This was just one of the moutains we completed but for me the most memorable especially having just watched this on TV.

This was by far the hardest challenge of my life and one I will not forget.

FireFlies Tour 2018

Posted at 2:27

Just one week until le grand depart for this year’s FireFlies Tour and after many years of being in complete awe and admiration of everyone who has taken part in the FireFlies, I’ve decided to take up what will be the biggest challenge of my life.

Eight days of cycling over 1000km and 28,512m climbing across Les Grandes Alpes, nothing of which compares to living with cancer.

As with most people, cancer has affected friends & family and although not cancer related my mum passed away nine weeks ago from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) so this tour will be in her memory.

When the opportunity came to ride with the FireFlies family, my mum encouraged me to help those who are less fortunate. Every penny you donate goes direct to Bloodwise.

Alternatively you can text FFCC85 to 70070 with your £ donation. Max £10

Thank you in advance.
