Instagram Algorithm

It's such a shame Instagram algorithm dictates the order of the posts that users see when they’re scrolling through their feed, I feel making it harder than ever to reach target audiences, get more followers, and improve engagement on your posts. Even if you do follow @RobinPopePhoto there is no guarantee you will see my posts on your Instagram feeds and even more annoyingly if they do appear the moment may have passed making the post old news. Instagram please can we switch back to the old way .........

Re-Discovering Hipstamatic

30 August 19

Posted at 9:31

Ten nights in Ibiza and I stupidly decided to leave the camera at home knowing you will be able capture beautiful landscape shots along with the traditional family holiday snaps. I have the iPhone XS but I decided be ring along an old Canon Digital IXUS 70 point and shoot with built in flash. I wished I left this at home and just used the iPhone which was far superior in day light.

Going through the various apps I have I came across Hipstamatic. I have not used this app in years. It has great filters and the quality is good but my only problem is their are far too many choices to make. Too many lens choices and film filers. I don't mind a few for the fun factor but I don't want to be wasting time trying to get the combination right, also it only shoots 1:1 (Square) well that's what I thought until I started to re-discover Hipstamatic. You now have the option to shoot various frame dimensions. With this in mind I thought I would give Hipstamtic another go and glad I did. It's a great app. It also stores the original picture on the iPhone Camera roll. Give it a go and have fun. Choose the Hipstamatic pre-pak combinations to save time.

New Instagram Account

08 August 19

Posted at 10:53

I'm sure most of you know and would have heard I now have switched Instagram Accounts. I created @RobinLDN many years ago not knowing where or how far my photography would go and I have been so lucky and fortunate to have met some amazing influential people along the way who have given me advice and helped me progress as a photographer. Back in February I re-posted an image which obviously did not cause offence first time round but did when I posted for Flashback Friday. The image was instantly deleted and I'm not sure if this is official but searching online it would appear I was put on a shadow ban. This means my images that I would upload would not appear in followers feeds or under the hash tags I attached it to. Unfortunately you are unable to contact anyone at Instagram so I set up a new account and uploaded the same picture and I got more interaction under my new account with 5000 less followers so here I am. I've decided to ditch the old account and concentrate on my new one @RobinPopePhoto - It's almost like I'm re-branding. Please check it and if you like my work previously on my old account please give me a follow.

Standon Calling 2019

03 August 19

Posted at 12:17

Standon Calling, located in Hertfordshire, welcomed a record 15,000 visitors with headliners including Rag’N’Bone Man, Wolf Alice and Nile Rogers & Chic closing Sunday night. Lewis Capaldi, Kate Nash, Inhaler, The Cuban Brothers, The Big Moon and Roisin Murphy also played over the weekend.

Each year this festival gets bigger and better and 2020 they will be celebrating their fifteen year anniversary with early bird tickets already on sale. To avoid disappointment please visit their site.

A collection of my favourite images taken during the weekend that include Inhaler who by far was the best new band I've seen at any festival.

Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Festival Hyde Park 2019

18 July 19

Posted at 9:30

BST Hyde Park is one of my favourite festivals. It's not all about the line-up but obviously helps. The lay out of the festival is good, easy to get home, always good weather and it definitely brings together a collective of photographers who have a laugh and enjoy each show.

Also a special mention to the team at Outside Organisation. Working so hard looking after photographers and there needs.

The weekend came and went with the likes of Goat Girl, Nadine Shah, Lykke Li, Feeder, Texas, The National, Florence & the Machine, Keane, Black Eyed Peas and Robbie Williams. Below are some of my favourite images from Saturday and Sunday including a few iPhone photos Texas when my camera decided to stop working and all I had was the trusty iPhone.

Bros - O2 Brixton Academy 5 July 2019

11 July 19

Posted at 8:48

With only allowed to shoot three songs it was apparent the second reunion of Bros was going to be a night to remember for the sell out crowd at London's O2 Brixton Academy. Even when Matt Goss had fallen off the stage the show went on regardless. Gutted I wasn't there for the whole show because they were sounding good and brought back a lot of memories.

Stone Foundation have been one of those bands who have been around for a while but our paths have never crossed until I found out they were supporting legendary artists Mavis Staples and Paul Weller both in less than week and I get to photograph both shows.

Top tunes and looking forward to their new album which is due out 24 August and features Kathryn Williams, Dr Robert, Mick Talbot, Steve White and Paul Weller who also produced the album titled Everybody, Anyone.

10 Days of Protest with Extinction Rebellion

24 June 19

Posted at 9:55

Ten days of protests, blockades and disruption across London came to an end 25 April 2019. Hundreds of activists had met in Hyde Park for a closing ceremony.

Extinction Rebellion started its protest on 15 April, stopping traffic at Oxford Circus, Marble Arch, Waterloo Bridge and Parliament Square with smaller protests around the city and the UK.

More than 1,000 people had been arrested since they first blocked traffic to draw attention to climate change.

Below are images I captured in and around London during these peaceful protests.

My Football Season 2018-2019

21 June 19

Posted at 10:28

Unfortunately I'm not the most prolific sport/football photographer due to other commitments but the games I have covered for Frozen in Motion I've appreciated and enjoyed. Manchester City destroy Chelsea in the Community Shield, Chelsea Women were unfortunate not to have beaten Lyon in the Semi-Final of the Champions League, Manchester City win the League Cup final and Aston Vila beat Derby County to be promoted to the Premier League in what is billed has the most expensive game in football. Of course like any photographer who shoots football I would have loved to have captured the Champions League Final, FA Cup final and Manchester City lift the Premier League trophy. Looking forward to the next season and hopefully be able to shoot more games.

Aston Villa Vs Derby County - Championship Playoff Final 2019

18 June 19

Posted at 5:04

Winning the Championship playoff is worth an estimate £170m, making Aston Villa and Derby's clash at Wembley making it the richest single game in English football.

Aston Villa had too much for Derby and went on to win 2-1 and be promoted to the Premier League.
