Hi everyone, Hope all had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year to all those who have liked posts and left comments on my Instagram feed. It’s been my best year to date in photography. It’s always nice to start off with good live music and 2019 started off with DIY Magazine Presents Hello 2019 at the Old Blue Last with some amazing bands with Audiobooks, Sistertalk and Black Country, New Road followed by my first experience photographing Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge who was visiting Family Action in Lewisham.
February I had the pleasure shooting portraits of Don McCullin, one of my favourite photographers at the Tate Britain and got the chance to photograph an unknown artist at the time Lewis Capaldi supporting Bastille who eventually become one of the biggest selling artists of 2019.
March was my first football match of the year Chelsea Vs Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley, more portraits with the Harlem Globetrotters and more football at Chelsea and seeing them beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Documented Anti and Pro Brexit supporters coming together in and around Westminster on a daily basis and School kids started to strike on the last Friday of each month protesting against Climate Change.
More live music shows, protests and the London Marathon in April and it was getting closer to festival season. In May I got to shoot the Metropolitan Police Boxing Championship and the Women’s FA CUP Final at Wembley Manchester City Vs West Ham United.
June had seen Trump arriving in London for his State visit creating more protests and I captured Prince of Wales as he attended the annual Combined Cavalry Old Comrades Association parade, in Hyde Park. Emotional scenes at The valley as Charlton Athletic reach League One Playoff Final. A stunning performance by Katherine Jenkins at the London Palladium and Extinction Rebellion protests shutting down parts of London with protestors gluing themselves to the road. I also had the pleasure photographing the Vitality London 10k with Sir Mo Farah winning his seventh Vitality London.
July is Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park. One of my favourite festivals to cover. Line-up always good and it’s nice catching-up with photographer friends.
August I switched over to my new instagram account RobinPopePhoto and started to shoot more Red Carpet Events, re-discovered Hipstamatic App on holiday in Ibiza and covered my fourth Standon Calling Festival.
September was a busy and emotional month. Had the most amazing night with friends on board The Royalty for Bill Dawes Memorial Evening. A top bloke who will always be sadly missed and covered more of London Fashion Week producing some of my favourite portrait shots this year.
The great Jesse Malin retuned to the UK in October and I started to shoot Film Premieres including my first Raindance and London Film Festival. It’s not every day you get to photograph Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Martin Scorsese together.
November and December gave me two huge film Premiere's Frozen 2 and Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker, Liam Gallagher, Primal Scream and the last gig of the year was the impressive The Darkness at my favourite venue The Roundhouse.
Huge thank you's to Ed De Sancha at Avalon and Hayley at Cover Images. DDA, Premier and Freuds for arranging photo accreditation at the Film Premiere's I've shot. Jamie at Zeitgeist for arranging Passes for Standon Calling and the team at Outside Org for always looking after photographers at BST Hyde Park.
Hope you like my favourite images I've shot in 2019
