Learning At Work Week at The Mill 2019 - Street Photography

16 May 19

Posted at 9:19

The Mill's annual Learning at Work Week commenced on Monday 13 May with this year’s theme ‘Shaping The Future’ with all sessions leaning into this theme of preparing for the future, inclusivity and creative technology.

For me, one of the highlights was the Street Photography course with Hackney Arts and Gaia Visiual. I'm self taught and this was a first for me attending any type of Photography course. Definitely worth while which took me out my comfort zone. Instead of the trusty iPhone I used my Fujifilm X-T2 and rather than just focusing on subjects it made me more aware of what was going on around the subject and making better use of light and movement.

Below are my five submissions from two hours in and around Fitzrovia and China Town

The Painted Hall reopens to the public after a two-year National Lottery Funded conservation project. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren. It was painted by Sir James Thornhill, the first artist to be knighted.

The reopening is part of a major transformation project by Hugh Broughton Architects – with conservation advice from Martin Ashley Architects – that will also see the reopening of the King William Undercroft housing a new cafe, shop and gallery.

Youth Strike 4 Climate Protest - 15 March 2019

21 March 19

Posted at 6:11

The students from all over the world went on strike to demand action on climate change. Almost 500 events had been registered to take place on Friday 15 March 2019. #FridaysForFuture is a movement that began in August 2018, after 15 year old Greta Thunberg sat in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis. This soon went viral and many students and adults began to protest outside of their own parliaments and local city halls all over the world.

Despite the Police photos it was a peaceful protest and the young students should be proud on what they are trying to achieve.

Kelsy Karter - O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire

After making headlines around the world with her fake tattoo of Harry Styles on her cheek Kelsy Karter arrived in London to support The Struts on tour. The stunt definitely worked because the venue was packed from the beginning.

On the BBC website Karter is quote saying "The tattoo has gone. All that's left is the music, Which is what my rockstar team and I had planned all along."

The Struts - O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire

It's been a while since I've been in a press pit at a music venue and you can't move due to the amount of photographers. The Struts were definitely a popular band that quite a few of us wanted to photograph.

I first photographed The Struts in 2012, Underground Festival in Gloucester to 200 people. 2019 and they are selling out venues around the world including the 4000 capacity O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire. Amazing stage performance and show and it's no surprise Foo Fighters said they are there favourite support band.

Chelsea Vs Manchester City - Carabao Cup Final 2019

01 March 19

Posted at 11:05

The last and only time I saw Chelsea play Manchester City in a cup final was in the Full Members Cup 1986. A David Speedie hatrick Chelsea won 5-4. You will be hard done by to find a cup final with that many goals and a hatrick. Fast forward to 2019 and Chelsea played City in the Carabao Cup League Final. It was one of there better performances with City being clear favourites. City eventually won on penalties.
